An engagement session comes with every wedding package and is also sold on its own

The session does two jobs. It gives you photos for your invitations and your wedding website, and it gives the two of you an hour in front of the same team that will be at your wedding, so by the ceremony you already know how we direct a pose and when we leave you alone.

Engagement photo locations in Queen Creek

Queen Creek has three places we point couples to first. Each one is a local fact from the Town's or the business's own page, not a venue we claim as our own:

  • Mansel Carter Oasis Park: a town park built around a lake, where our team photographed a quinceañera session by the water in July 2022. Open water and a long shoreline give you reflections in the last hour before sunset.
  • The Queen Creek Wash trail: a paved trail through the wash with desert plants on both sides and no rooftops in the frame. Good for walking shots and wide photos of the two of you.
  • The grounds of Queen Creek Olive Mill (opens in a new tab): olive rows and a working mill that the Mill's own page offers for private events. Ask the Mill before planning a session there; it is a business, not a park.

Town parks are run by Queen Creek Parks and Recreation. Its facility rules page (opens in a new tab) names no photography permit, and organized groups of 15 or more need a rental permit. Check with Parks and Recreation before your date, because a session with family or a full wedding party can count as a group.

Engagement session packages when you are not booking a wedding package

Three photo-only sessions, each with the online gallery to choose from and your edited photos to download: one hour with 10 photos, one hour with 20 photos and a framed 16×20, or an hour and a half with 30 photos and a framed 20×30. Add-ons: an extra hour $100, an extra location $100, rush delivery $100, and every photo from the session from $250. Standalone sessions are photographed at the spot you choose, and a session with more than one location stays within 5 driving miles of the spot where it starts; tell us your spot when you book. There is no travel fee within 25 driving miles of Tempe, Arizona (I-10 and US-60); farther out, we quote the travel before you book.

What to wear for engagement photos in the desert

  • Solid colors and simple textures. Logos, small checks and thin stripes fight the desert background and the camera.
  • Tones that go together, not outfits that match. One of you in a deep color and the other in a light neutral reads well against tan ground and green mesquite.
  • Shoes you can walk in on gravel and sand, and the dress shoes in a bag for the standing shots.
  • A layer for the last half hour. Queen Creek sunsets drop the temperature fast from October to March.
  • One change of clothes if you booked an extra location, and none if you did not; an hour goes faster than you expect.

Booking terms for a standalone engagement session

A $150 non-refundable deposit holds your session and is applied to the package. The balance is due 48 hours before the session. You can reschedule with 72 hours' notice, and one reschedule within 30 days keeps your deposit. Rescheduling for weather is free. Usual turnaround is 2 weeks from the session, and downloads include permission to print for personal use.

The session included in a wedding package follows the wedding contract instead: it is scheduled at least two weeks before the wedding, at a location you choose, and no extra deposit is needed.

Questions couples ask about engagement photos in Queen Creek

When should we take our engagement photos?

Two to four months before the wedding if you want them on invitations or a wedding website. The session included in a wedding package happens at least two weeks before the wedding. For the light, book the last hour before sunset; from May to September that also means the only comfortable hour outdoors.

Can we print the engagement photos or use them on our invitations?

Yes. Your downloads include permission to print for personal use, which covers invitations, save-the-dates and your wedding website, and a 20% code applies to professional prints ordered online.

Do we need a permit for photos in a Queen Creek park?

The Town's facility rules page names no permit for photography, and organized groups of 15 or more need a rental permit. Check with Queen Creek Parks and Recreation before your date. San Tan Mountain Regional Park, nearby, is a county park with a per-car fee.

What if it rains or it is too hot on the day of the session?

Rescheduling for weather is free. Summer sessions are scheduled early in the morning or at sunset, and a monsoon sky after the storm passes is often the photo of the day.
